A senior Turkish business official expressed confidence that bilateral trade between Türkiye and Oman could reach $1 billion in the near term, during a meeting in Ankara with Oman's National Economy Minister Ahmad bin Abd al-Nabi al-Maki, who was on an official visit to Türkiye.
Huseyin Uzulmez, deputy chairman of the Union of Turkish Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB), noted that trade between the two countries had already grown from $24 million to $44 million between 2003 and 2005, calling Oman "an important partner of commerce and investment in the region."
Uzulmez described Türkiye as the 17th largest economy globally, with a gross national product of roughly $370 billion and total foreign trade of $190 billion. He highlighted Türkiye's strength in textiles, automotive, machinery, steel, and foodstuffs, saying industrial goods make up 90 percent of its exports.
On tourism, he said arrivals exceeded 21 million in 2005, with a goal of reaching 40 million visitors and $40 billion in tourism revenues within a decade.
Minister al-Maki said businesspeople from both countries had good opportunities to work together in construction, tourism, and industry.
