ANKARA - Turkey's exports were down 6.1 percent in April 2006, when compared with April 2005, announced Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK).
According to a statement by TUIK, Turkey earned 5.7 billion USD from its exports in this period, while its imports were around 10.9 billion USD --an increase of 14.2 percent over April 2005.
The foreign trade deficit was up 50 percent, and was recorded as 5.2 billion USD in April 2006.
-EXPORT & IMPORT FIGURES IN FIRST FOUR MONTHS-
On the other hand, exports were up 3.5 percent in the first four months of this year when compared with the same period of last year. Turkey earned 24.1 billion USD from exports in this period.
Meanwhile, Turkey's imports are up 14.1 percent, and reached 40.3 billion USD between January-April 2006. The foreign trade deficit was also up 34.9 percent in the same period and was calculated as 16.1 billion USD.
