ANKARA - Former Turkish President Suleyman Demirel was presented with an award by the Turkish-German Friendship Federation on Tuesday.
Taking the floor in the ceremony held in Turkish capital of Ankara, Demirel said that the EU will gain a lot from Turkey`s membership.
``An EU without Turkey cannot be imagined. We want to make Turkey a country like those in Europe,`` he stressed.
On the other hand, German Ambassador to Turkey Eckart Cuntz said that Turkey is walking on the road to the EU rapidly, and added that Germany is extending the greatest support to Turkey in this process.
Demirel was presented with an award in ``policy`` category, while the ``culture`` award went to the German Cultural Center. Deutsche Welle`s administrator Baha Gungor, Turabi Yilmaz, and executives of MAN Turkey Corp. and Istanbul Disabled Sportsmen Club were the other people who received awards.
