ANKARA - German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit Turkey June 1st and 2nd, diplomatic sources said on Tuesday. He will arrive in Ankara on June 1st and hold his formal meetings the next day.
The guest minister will meet Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and will be received by Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
Bilateral relations, EU process, Cyprus, Iran, Iraq, Israeli-Palestinian controversy as well as regional issues will be discussed during those meetings.
In his past statements, Steinmeier indicated that Cyprus problem could be solved under the roof of the UN and regarding Iran`s nuclear program, he said he is for economic pressure (on Iran) if necessary.
Regarding Middle East issue, Steinmeier is against establishment of diplomatic relations with Hamas until it recognizes Israel`s right to exist and gives up violence.
