A FIGHT OF 90 MILLION USD
A raw broke out between National Education Minister Huseyin Celik and members of the Executive Board of the National Education Foundation for the foundation's real estates worth of nearly 70 million USD and bank accounts of 30 million USD.
MUSEUM CURATOR DETAINED
Security forces have detained nine people including curator of the Archaeology Museum in the western city of Usak from which at least two pieces from the treasure of King Croesus had been stolen and replaced with fakes. Earlier, a coin as well as Croesus' golden broach in the shape of a winged seahorse had been switched with replicas at the museum.

KING CARL XVI GUSTAF OF SWEDEN IN TURKEY
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden arrived in Ankara late on Monday upon invitation of Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. An official welcoming ceremony will take place at the Presidential Palace in honor of Swedish royal family on Tuesday. During their four-day visit to Turkey, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will also visit Istanbul and the ancient city of Ephesus.
IRTEMCELIK VISITS PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE
Turkish Ambassador to Germany Mehmet Ali Irtemcelik was received by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer after being scolded by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in front of public upon allegations of a woman wearing Islamic-style headscarf. Irtemcelik informed President Sezer on the scheduled visit of German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier next week. Meanwhile, Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied claims that Irtemcelik would resign.

LIVNI IN ANKARA
Israeli Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni paid her first official visit to Turkey, and eased the tension in Turkey-Israel relations which escalated after Hamas delegation's visit to Ankara in February. Livni described Turkey-Israel relations as ''perfect''. She stressed that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of modern and secular Republic of Turkey, was the leader of all nations who believed in freedom and democracy.
A SOLDIER KILLED IN DIYARBAKIR
A Turkish soldier was killed while a soldier and three village guards were injured during a clash with PKK terrorists in rural area near Hazro town of the southeastern city of Diyarbakir.

SEZER RECEIVES IRTEMCELIK
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer received Turkish Ambassador to Germany Mehmet Ali Irtemcelik who was scolded by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in front of public upon allegations of a woman wearing Islamic-style headscarf. During the meeting, Irtemcelik expressed his uneasiness about the event.

During her joint news conference with Gul, Livni described Turkey-Israel relations as perfect and asked for Turkey's support.

CORRUPTION
Fuat Gecen, a deputy of the ruling Justice & Development Party (AKP) who was transferred to the disciplinary board for bringing corruption claims on agenda, defended himself. In his defense, Gecen criticized harshly the AKP. ''In AKP, fight against corruption has turned into fight against those who have been trying to prevent corruption,'' he said.
A BRIDGE OF MONEY
The official inauguration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline is expected to take place on July 13th. Besides presidents, prime ministers and energy ministers of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia, representatives of 16 countries will be in attendance at the inauguration. After the pipeline becomes operative, Turkey will maintain an annual income of nearly 300 million USD.

GUL: ''NEGOTIATIONS ARE ESSENTIAL''
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said during his joint news conference with Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni of Israel, ''we are in favor of a plan that will lead Israel and Palestine to live side by side in peace and cooperate as independent states. The plan will be achieved through mutual negotiations and dialogue. The Road Map and United Nations documents will guide the parties. Any other solution is out of question.''

Former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has still been in coma on life support. The Gulhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) said, ''although vital functions are stable, Ecevit has still been in critical condition. He has begun reacting to pain. Cerebral hemorrhage has been taken under control.'' Ecevit, 82, had a stroke on May 18th after attending the funeral of judge Mustafa Yucel Ozbilgin, who was killed in an armed attack in the Council of State Second Chamber.

TURKEY-ISRAEL SUMMIT IN ANKARA
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has called on Israeli and Palestinian parties to resume negotiation process, and noted that a solution could be reached on the basis of two states. ''We are in favor of a plan that will lead Israel and Palestine to live side by side in peace and cooperate as independent states. The Road Map and United Nations documents will guide the parties,'' he said.
ARINC: ''WE SHOULD EASE TENSION''
Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc said about arguments following the armed attack on the Council of State on May 17th, ''those who have been trying to use the event for their political purposes and who try to put to blame on each other contradict with political ethics and social moral.''
