BARTIN - A total of 22 scientists, who were examining the reasons of sudden climate changes happened in the world 120 million years ago, arrived in Black Sea Bartin province on Tuesday.
A total of 22 geology professors from Turkey, China, Canada, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Germany, Russia, Georgia and Israel attended the meeting which was hosted by Bartin Municipality and Trade and Industry Chamber and organized by Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Eurasia Geology Institute.
Prof. Dr. Okan Tuysuz from Eurasia Geology Institute told A.A correspondent that the geologists convened in a different country every year within the project headed by Chinese Geology Professor Wang Chengshan and the first meeting was held in Italy last year.
Tuysuz said that this years meeting, which was planned to be held in Tibet, was taken to Turkey because of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) disease.
Tuysuz said that Bartin-Amasra region was one of the best places where the rocks, which were formed with the climate change in the region from Black Sea Eregli to Artvin province, were seen. He added that they were researching the reasons of sudden climate changes in the world with a five-year project carried out under the name of Upper Cretaceous Pelagic Red Beds. He said that scientists were explaining their studies which they had been carried out in their countries for one year.
Tuysuz said that scientists would depart from Bartin tomorrow after completing their researches.
