JAKARTA - A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale rocked the densely-populated southern coast of Indonesia`s Central Java, the meteorology office said Saturday as local radio reported several houses had collapsed.
The earthquake, which struck at 5:53 am (2253 GMT Friday), was centered 33 kilometers (20 miles) under the surface 37 kilometers south of the city of Yogyakarta, said Arief of the meteorology office.
