SAMSUN - Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Group Chairman Haluk Koc said on Saturday, ''our people do not want their children to die in deserts for goals of someone else.''
Speaking at a press conference at CHP Provincial Office in northern province of Samsun, Koc said, ''President Ahmet Necdet Sezer returned many laws, which were approved as a result of majority of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) at the parliament. As the main opposition party, we applied to the Constitutional Court for annulment of some of these laws.''
Referring to the issue of dispatch of Turkish soldiers to Iraq, Koc told reporters, ''the AK Party has been following a wrongful policy about this issue. The CHP has been defending from the very beginning that Turkey should not become a part of an illegal process. Turkey's national interests focus on northern Iraq. However, the United Statkes plan to deploy Turkish soldiers in southern part of Iraq. Our people do not want their children to die in deserts for goals of someone else.''
