ANKARA - Former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has still been in coma, doctors said on Wednesday.
Releasing a statement, the Gulhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) said, ''Ecevit has shown no sign of improvement, and remained in coma on life support. His respiratory and circulatory functions are stable. His treatment has been continuing at the intensive care unit.''
Ecevit, 81, had a stroke last Thursday after attending the funeral of judge Mustafa Yucel Ozbilgin, who was killed in an armed attack in the Council of State Second Chamber.
He was taken to the GATA with broken speech and weakness in his right arm and leg. The stroke led to a bleeding in the left side of his brain. An operation was performed to remove the accumulated blood and reduce the pressure on his brain. He was brought out of medically induced sleep yesterday but he remained in critical condition.
