LEFKOSA - ''UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has to launch new initiatives to settle the Cyprus problem'', PM Ferdi Sabit Soyer of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Wednesday.
Welcoming Annan's call to resume Cyprus talks, Soyer said, ''if the UN fails to solve Cyprus controversy, it can no more act as an organization able to resolve problems in other conflict areas in the world.''
Soyer also indicated that it is the Greek Cypriot administration which rejects the settlement. Noting that Annan referred to this fact in his report, Soyer expressed his hope that new initiatives will be launched in the shortest possible time to solve Cyprus problem.
