Collective Bargaining Process Between Civil Servants And Government

STATE MINISTER SAHIN AND ADMINISTRATORS OF KAMU-SEN AND KESK MEET

ANKARA - Collective bargaining process between civil servants and government started.
Deputy Prime Minister and State Minister Mehmet Ali Sahin and administrators of Confederation of Public Workers Trade Unions (KESK) and Turkish Public Workers Trade Union (Kamu-Sen) met in Prime Ministry to evaluate the increase that would be made to salaries of civil servants in 2004.
KESK Chairman Sami Evren, who spoke before the meeting, pointed out that they would listen to the views of the government during today's meeting, stating that they would continue the talks in case a positive sign comes. He said they would continue their struggle otherwise.
Describing their demands as ''acceptable and reasonable'', Evren said their demands could be met within current budget facilities, and noted that they sit at negotiation as a result of the fight they have been carrying out since 1999.
Evren called on the government to make statements which would relieve the public.
The process of collective bargaining talks is expected to last for 15 days. A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the sides and will be presented to Council of Ministers.
