BRUSSELS - The European Commission denounced the armed attack staged on Council of State judges yesterday.
Krisztina Nagy, spokeswoman for EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn, said that the commission condemned harshly this horrible attack.
Nagy stated that the commission offered its condolences to relatives of Council of State member who died in the attack, wishing quick recovery to other injured judges.
The attack occurred in the Council of State Chamber 2 during a committee meeting on Wednesday morning. Five judges, including Mustafa Yucel Ozbilgin, were wounded in the attack. The gunman, who was identified as lawyer Arslan Alparslan from the Istanbul Bar, was detained and taken to the Anti-Terror Department for interrogation.
Ozbilgin who was shot in the head died in the hospital.
