Five Bodies Washed Up Onto Shore In Edremit

EDREMIT - Bodies of five people, who had been trying to proceed from Libya to Italy illegally by a boat, were washed up onto shore in Avcilar village in Edremit town of northwestern province of Balikesir on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, security forces found five bodies, a man and four women.
Four people also managed to swim to the shores Avcilar village. These people of Sudanese origin said that they had gone on board from Libya to head for Italy, however, their boat sank.
Meanwhile, Edremit head official Ekrem Buyukata said that the foreigners were taken into custody for questioning.
A full investigation into human smuggling is under way.
