ISTANBUL - Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf sent a gift in the shape of giant soccer ball to Besiktas soccer club as they clinched the championship in 2003, the 100th anniversary of foundation of the club.
The gift was handed over to club president Serdar Bilgili by Pakistani Defense Attache Vice-General Sacit Habip on Tuesday at the club's building in Istanbul.
Bilgili recalled that Musharraf was a Besiktas club congress member.
Stressing that Musharraf always expressed his support to Besiktas on every occasion, Bilgili said, ''thanks to Mr. Musharraf, Besiktas has become the club which has the highest number of supporters in the world. Because, whole Pakistan supports Besiktas. As Besiktas team, we are planning to play a friendly game with the Pakistani National Team in Pakistan to consolidate our friendship.''
Meanwhile, Habip said that Musharraf congratulated championship of Besiktas in the 100th anniversary of their foundation and expected new successes, adding that Musharraf sent his compliments to both Besiktas and the Turkish National Team.
