ANKARA - Turkey took diplomatic steps in Greece and Germany about German research ship Poseidon's seismic works in the Aegean Sea.
In response to a question on the subject at a weekly press conference in Ankara, Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan said that Ankara's stance toward the subject is based on the 1976 Bern Agreement and 1997 Madrid Declaration.
''A change in Turkey's stance and policies regarding the Aegean has not taken place. We requested from Germany not to be a party to many differences of legal and political opinion that exist between Turkey and Greece,'' noted Tan.
Some media reports formerly indicated that Germany obtained permission for seismic researches in the Aegean Sea only from Greek authorities.
