ANKARA - A quartet of mountain climbers from Turkey reached the summit of Mount Everest Monday, members of the first all-Turkish team to successfully scale the highest peak in the world, the excursion organizers said.
Supported by seven compatriots, the four climbers -- including the first Turkish woman, Eylem Elif Mavis, ever to reach the summit -- attained the 8,850-meter (29,000-foot) roof of the world without the use of oxygen, approaching along the Tibetan face.
The expedition set out from Turkey to Nepal in March, and began its attack on Everest last month.
