ISTANBUL - Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Sunday that they had discussed many issues between Turkey and Italy with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
Responding questions of journalists at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, Gul said, ''during the luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Dolmabahce Palace, we discussed many issues between Turkey and Italy with Prime Minister Berlusconi. Our businessmen were also in attendance at the dinner. Business issues were also taken up. We well-assessed this opportunity.''
Recalling that Italy had been acting as the current term president of the European Union (EU), Gul said, ''Italy has really supporting Turkey's EU full membership process. Prime Minister Berlusconi has also been supporting opening of accession talks between Turkey and the EU. Intergovernmental conference will be held in Italian capital Rome in the coming months. He invited us to attend the conference.''
