AYVALIK - Turkish gendarmery and coast guard arrested 29 illegal migrants in Ayvalik town of northwestern city of Balikesir, sources said on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, gendarmery and coast guard teams detained 14 Mauritanians on Gunes island, 3.5 miles off Ayvalik. Meanwhile, 15 Afghans were captured in Ayvalik's Sarimsakli hamlet.
The illegal migrants wanted to sneak into Greece.
They will be deported once legal proceedings are completed.
