ISTANBUL - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer delivered on Sunday a speech at the opening of the 21st World Philosophy Congress which was held in Lutfi Kirdar International Congress and Exhibition Hall in Istanbul.
Stating that he was very pleased with the 21st World Philosophy Congress's being held in Istanbul, Sezer said that many philosophers raised in Anatolia where philosophy had been born and those philosophers made important contributions to intellectual development of humanity.
President Sezer said that gathering of the World Philosophy Congress in Istanbul established a bridge between this rooted thought tradition of Anatolia and contemporary philosophy and stated that humanity reached very important points with respect to science, technology, transportation and communication possibilities.
Sezer said that advances in science destroyed thousand-year taboos and paved the way for development, thought and experience and stated that knowledge was universalized in a way that all humanity was able to benefit from it.
Stating that obstacles in front of globalization were lifted after end of cold war, Sezer said that humanity has reached universal peace ideal recently as never before.
Sezer said that while a part of world population lived peacefully at the highest level of financial affluence and technological progress, a big part of world population lived in poverty, lack of confidence and instability and stated that it showed that developments which were recorded so far were not necessary.
President Sezer added that's why people and society should be backed against world problems and people should further develop their level of thought.
