The decisive Sunday results ended a tight title race. Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray's Istanbul rivals, could manage only a 1-1 draw against Denizlispor, leaving them runners-up on 81 points. Both clubs had entered the final round level on 80 points after 33 matches.
Belgian coach Eric Gerets guided Galatasaray through the pressure of the final day. Fellow Istanbul club Beşiktaş finished third, ending the campaign on 54 points, a distant 27 points behind Fenerbahçe.
Trabzonspor took fourth place on 52 points after a 2-1 home win over Beşiktaş on Sunday. Kayserispor and Gençlerbirliği rounded out the top six, each finishing on 51 points.
