ANKARA - ``Turkey will get expertise training and technical equipment assistance from the United States to help identify materials with double usage that contain sensitive technology that may be used in manufacturing of weapons of mass destruction,`` Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Namik Tan said on Wednesday.
Responding to a question about the agreement that was signed between Turkey and the United States on NPT (the treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons), Tan said Turkey signed all the international arrangements toward non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
``The agreement was signed between Turkey and the United States on June 14th, 2005 aiming to provide necessary expertise and technological support to develop export controls,`` Tan said, adding that the agreement envisaged United States` giving technical equipment and expertise to help identify materials with double usage that contain sensitive technology that may be used in weapons of mass destruction.
Stating that Turkey was located in a sensitive geography for spread of materials with double usage to undesired users, Tan said the agreement targeted giving expertise training to the staff of the institutions that have responsibility in exports control and that may help some customs gates to identify materials that contain sensitive technology.
Tan said the assistance would be made through the program, ``Export Control and Related Border Security Assistance-EXBS).
