ANKARA - ``Allegations on so-called Pontus genocide do not have any historical and scientific basis,`` said Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Namik Tan in his weekly news conference on Wednesday.
Regarding Thessaloniki Mayor`s unveiling so-called Hellenism of Pontus Monument on May 7th, 2006 with a ceremony, Tan said, ``Turkey felt sorry over the participation of Greek governmental officials and representatives of parliament as well as military officials to the ceremony.``
``We recommend Greek officials and academicians to assess historical incidents in an objective way instead of making statements that will deteriorate Turkish-Greek relations,`` said Tan.
Tan noted, ``Turkey has been conveying its sensitivity about the issue to Greek officials for a while. We would like to reaffirm that this step (opening of monument) is not appropriate to cooperation and dialogue spirit which we are trying to develop between Turkey and Greece.``
