LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Thursday that some Greek Cypriots were getting prepared to apply to the TRNC Commission of Compensation which was expected to start initiatives soon.
Denktas, who received a delegation, said that some Greek Cypriots were getting prepared to apply to the commission established by TRNC to settle the issue of property, which was one of the biggest obstacles before solution of Cyprus issue.
The Greek Cypriot citizens had started to see that initiatives of TRNC regarding that issue were right, Denktas noted.
Denktas said, ''I have received application of 5-6 Greek Cypriots 'to settle the issue through compensations.' We have formed a commission to deal with this so, I will send the applications to this commission.''
The commission which is expected to become operational next week will determine the compensation rates for use and ownership right of the properties of the Greek Cypriots which are within the borders of TRNC.
The commission which will work as an independent court is foreseen to undertake role as a first court for similar applications to be made to the European Court of Human Rights.
ERENKOY MARTYRS TO BE COMMEMORATED IN TRNC ON FRIDAY
The 39th anniversary of Sanli Erenkoy Resistance and martyrs will be commemorated in TRNC in a ceremony on Friday.
TRNC President Rauf Denktas, officials from Turkey and TRNC, and relatives of martyrs will attend the ceremony.
Relatives of martyrs, citizens and press members who are earlier registered to take part in the ceremony are taken by TRNC Security Forces to Erenkoy by boats.
Issuing a message upon the anniversary of Erenkoy resistance, TRNC Parliament Speaker Vehbi Zeki Serter said that the people who had the spirit during the Erenkoy resistance would overcome all kinds of impediments and difficulties.
Noting that no country other than Turkey tried to help Turkish Cypriots on those days when the latter faced the danger of annihilation, Serter said this showed how Turkish Cypriots were right in only trusting the motherland.
TURKEY-TRNC PARTNERSHIP COUNCIL TO CONVENE IN GIRNE ON AUGUST 8
The Sixth meeting of Turkey-Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Partnership Council, which is formed with an agreement signed on August 6, 1997, will be held in Girne on Friday.
The main agenda of the meeting will be customs union which means that the customs wall between the two countries will be removed completely. The Council is formed with the target of ''economic and financial unity and partial unity on the basis of security, defense and partnership in foreign policy'' between Turkey and TRNC.
Cochairmen of the meeting will be State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener and TRNC State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas. State Ministers Ali Babacan and Kursad Tuzmen, Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan will attend the meeting from Turkey and Foreign and Defense Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu, Economy Minister Salih Cosar, Finance Minister Mehmet Bayram and Interior, Rural Affairs and Settlement Minister Mehmet Albayrak will participate in the meeting from TRNC.
Technical delegations comprising of bureaucrats of two countries will also attend the meeting.
Final statement of the meetings that will continue all day will be released with a press conference at Colony Hotel.
Preparations for the meeting, which aims to deepen and diversify cooperation and solidarity between Turkey and TRNC in the fields of foreign policy, security, defense, economy and finance, are intensively continuing. Bureaucrats including undersecretaries and directors will complete their preparations, which have been continuing for three days, with the economic committee meetings held today. Partnership Council Statement is tried to be given its final shape during the preparations.
A total of four Turkish ministers, who will go to TRNC for the meeting on Friday, will be received by TRNC President Rauf Denktas at 05.00 p.m. after completing the meeting. TRNC Parliament Speaker Vehbi Zeki Serter and Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu will also attend the meeting with Denktas.
Ministers are expected to depart from TRNC at 07.00 p.m.
Partnership Council was formed to determine the measures for providing economic and financial unity and partial unity on the basis of security, defense and partnership in foreign policy between Turkey and TRNC and to recommend implementation of those measures to governments and to follow up implementation with the agreement signed on August 6, 1997 in Lefkosa.
