BUDAPEST - Prof. Dr. Yusuf Halacoglu, chairman of the Turkish Historical Society (TTK), said on Tuesday that attitudes of France and Canada about so-called Armenian genocide were shameful.
Prof. Dr. Halacoglu attended a conference in Hungarian capital Budapest and delivered a speech on ''The Way Leading to Exile: Was Relocation a Genocide?''
Following the conference, Prof. Dr. Halacoglu told the A.A, ''I attended the conference upon request of Hungarian Historical Institute officials. Many Hungarian historians told me after the conference that they did not know anything about the facts, and that those facts bewildered them.''
Referring to recent attitudes of France and Canada about so-called Armenian genocide, Prof. Dr. Halacoglu said, ''their attitudes are shameful. These two countries, which praise themselves with having high standards of human rights, violate the law. I think that it is time to cooperate with Algeria to reveal how France massacred 1.5 million Algerians.''
