BRUSSELS - Murat Mercan, a deputy of the ruling Justice & Development Party (AKP), said on Tuesday that Turkey's membership to the EU would be a win-win process for both parties.
Mercan, who represented Turkey at a joint parliamentary meeting held in association with the European Parliament and Austrian parliament on ''Future of Europe'', said, ''the EU can benefit from Turkey's membership. The EU should not ignore Turkey's possible contributions to energy security and to joint security and defense policy. Turkey's membership to the EU will be a win-win process for both parties. As a result, the EU will be able to become a global power.''
Issues such as ''European Socio-economic Model and Globalization'', ''Expected Developments in Freedom, Security and Justice'' and ''Future Finance of Europe'' will be discussed at the meeting.
