ISTANBUL - ''There is direct foreign interest in Turkey and Istanbul Stock Exchange,'' Turkish State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said on Tuesday.
Delivering a keynote speech at a meeting arranged by Dogan Yayin Holding in Istanbul, Sener said the most important impact of the European Union (EU) process on Turkish economy is Turkey's image in foreign markets.
Recalling that Tekfenbank would sell 70 percent of its shares to one of the leading banks of Greece Eurobank EFG, Sener said, ''this is actually a very significant development. However, the EU process means bilateral relations. Of course the Turkish bankers should have interest in Greek banks.''
Sener said macro-economic stability was one of the most important elements required for increase in investments in a country.
Recalling that value of direct foreign investments in Turkey between 1980-2000 had been 10 billion USD, Sener said this amount was achieved in one year in 2005.
