ANKARA - ''What I did was in line with our laws and regulations,'' said Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen when commenting on the claims against himself that ''he abused his power and helped some companies earn unjust money from oil imports from Iraq'' while he was serving as the Undersecretary of Foreign Trade.
Holding a press conference in capital Ankara on Tuesday, Tuzmen indicated that his friend and he are behind the things they did in those days.
''The state was informed on what we did in those days. Turkey's national income per capita would be at least 10,000 USD today if we could launch this project in 1991, i.e. at the end of the first Gulf crisis. Poverty in the southeast and east of Anatolia, and the general poverty problem in Turkey, which is one of the most important reasons for terrorism, would have been overcome,'' he said.
Tuzmen added that he has not received any information that an investigation is launched against him.
