ANKARA - An International Relations Committee from the United States House of Representatives has visited Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul on Monday.
Gul and the U.S. delegation meeting focused on Turkish-U.S. relations, Iran, Iraq, Turkey-Armenia relations as well as Turkey-Israel relations.
Gul told the U.S. delegation that Turkey is against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. ''We do not want a new crisis,'' said Gul.
Minister Abdullah Gul pointed out that Iran's nuclear activities must be transparent and that Iran should fully cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
''I will be frank with Iran's National Security Chief Ali Larijani today. Turkey will be on the side of the international community vis-a-vis Iran's nuclear aspirations,'' noted Gul.
The U.S. delegation informed Gul that they follow Turkey's democratization process closely. ''Turkey is a role model for the region,'' said U.S. committee sources.
