AHMADINEJAD'S PROHIBITION
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Azerbaijani capital of Baku yesterday. Ahmadinejad earlier ordered Iranian people (especially women) not to travel to some seaside resorts. Erdogan requested Ahmadinejad to allow Iranian people to travel to Turkish resorts such as Bodrum, Antalya and Marmaris. Both leaders participated in the Ninth Heads of State & Government Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Baku. Erdogan told Ahmadinejad that nearly 1 million Iranian tourists visited Turkey in 2005, stating that Tehran-Bodrum and Tehran-Antalya flights should be resumed. Ahmadinejad said that he would deal with this issue.
FAMOUS TURKISH FILM DIRECTOR ATIF YILMAZ DIES
Famous Turkish film director Atif Yilmaz, 81, Batibeki died in his house in Istanbul yesterday.
Yilmaz was granted 10 awards due to his contributions to Turkish movie sector.

ERDOGAN AND AHMADINEJAD HAVE A MEETING LASTING ONE HOUR
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Baku, Azerbaijan. Erdogan told Ahmadinejad that Iran should be transparent on its nuclear program. Ahmadinejad stated that his country would not step back on its nuclear program. Erdogan urged him to cooperate with the West to eliminate concerns about its nuclear program.
THE ECONOMIST: ''DOES TURKEY MOVE AWAY FROM EUROPE?''
The Economist said in article about Turkey that Turkish government may be moving away from Europe. It said, ''it is time to start worrying about Turkey-and looking for ways to revive its European hopes.'' The article stated, ''last year's optimism about Turkey may have been overblown. But the positive energy generated by the surge in Turkey's European hopes has not been completely exhausted. Those hopes can still be fulfilled if everybody with an interest in a European future for Turkey acts responsibly.''

ERDOGAN MEETS AHMADINEJAD
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Baku where the Ninth Heads of State & Government Summit of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held. Their tete-a-tete meeting lasted for one hour. Erdogan told Ahmadinejad that Turkish government considered that nuclear power could be used for peaceful and humanitarian reasons, but Turkey did not want any nuclear weapon in its region.
COURT REJECTS OCALAN'S DEMAND TO BE RE-TRIED
The Ankara 11th Criminal Court has rejected an appeal from Abdullah Ocalan, head of terrorist organization, to be re-tried. The court decided that Ocalan's request was not acceptable.

ANKARA CRIMINAL COURT ACQUITS GULEN
The Ankara Criminal Court decided to acquit Fethullah Gulen. Ankara State Security Court (DGM) chief prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit against Gulen in 2000 on charges that ''he set up an illegal organization to replace the secular state with a state based on religious rules''. The prosecutor demanded imprisonment terms up to ten years for Gulen. The prosecutor has the right to appeal this verdict.

HAND GRENADE ON CUMHURIYET NEWSPAPER HQ
A hand grenade whose pin was not pulled out was hurled to Cumhuriyet newspaper HQ in Sisli district of Istanbul. Bomb squad defused the bomb.

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Azerbaijani capital of Baku yesterday. ''As the Turkish Republic government, we think that no one can approach using nuclear power for peaceful and humanitarian reasons in a negative fashion. AFRICAN MINISTERS AND BUSINESSMEN TO VISIT TURKEY
20 ministers and 500 businessmen from 33 African countries will pay a visit to Turkey for a summit to be held in Istanbul between May 8th and 9th. Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen will make opening remarks of the summit which aims to boost cooperation between Turkey and African countries. Representatives of 1,500 Turkish companies will attend the summit. Several agreements worth 2 billion USD will be signed during the summit.

ERDOGAN: ''I'M NOT INTERESTED IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS''
Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan made important statements to reporters aboard returning from Baku, Azerbaijan to Turkey. Erdogan said that he was not interested in presidential elections currently.
