SANLIURFA - Muammer Yasar Ozgul, the Chairman of the Southeast Anatolian Development Project (GAP) Administration said on Monday that 50 percent of the project was completed and totally 16 billion dollars was spent for the project to date.
''The construction of the dam continues, but we will give priority to irrigation from now on,'' said Ozgul.
Noting that 32 billion dollars was foreseen to be spent totally for the project, Ozgul said that GAP was an integrated project.
''The project will be completed later than the foreseen period for the project because it is impossible to complete the project on time with the existing allocations,'' Ozgul said.
Ozgul noted that GAP administration undertook 50 projects in the region to date and that there were 23 projects foreseen for this year.
''The target of GAP project is to upgrade the prosperity level of the local people from all dimensions,'' he added.
