IZMIR - Bian Zhenhu, the Chairman of Chinese Chamber of Export, Import and Trade of Domestic and Animal Products said on Monday that Turkey could increase its trade to China by promoting products in China, like its promotion of hazelnut.
Zhenhu visited Izmir Trade Chamber (IZTO) with a delegation of 12 businessmen the same day. The delegation which had bilateral contacts with businessmen of Izmir, mutually discussed trade opportunities.
Speaking in a news conference before the meeting, Zhenhu said that the trade between the two countries had to be balanced.
Exports from China to Turkey were more than imports, said Zhenhu adding that ''we must overcome this imbalance in long term, if we can achieve that our trade can continuously increase. Turkey has many opportunities. It has many products to sell.''
Zhenhu said that Turkey recorded important progress in selling hazelnuts to China, adding that hazelnut was not known in Chine 3-4 years ago. Turkish businessmen and Turkish Embassy in China carried out a successful promotion campaign in China in 2001, he said adding that hazelnut was known very well in China today. Zhenhu said that Turkey had to promote its olive oil well in China.
IZTO Executive Board Deputy President Akýn Kazancoglu said in his part that while the exports from Izmir to China was 7.6 million dollars in 2001, it increased to 47.1 million dollars in 2002 by increasing six folds.
