SUPREME MILITARY COUNCIL DECISIONS: NAVAL FORCES COMMANDER ADMIRAL ALPKAYA AND AIR FORCES COMMANDER ASPARUK RETIRE

ANKARA - Decisions taken in Supreme Military Council meeting announced on Monday. The meetings, chaired by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had started on August 1.
According to the decisions that would take effect as of August 30, 2003, Naval Forces Commander Admiral Bulent Alpkaya and Air Forces Commander Gen. Cumhur Asparuk retired.
Fleet Commander Admiral Ozden Ornek was appointed as Naval Forces Commander and War Academies Commander Gen. Ibrahim Firtina was appointed as Air Forces Commander.
Chief of General Staff Gen. Hilmi Ozkok, Land Forces Commander Gen. Aytac Yalman, and Gendarme General Commander Gen. Sener Eruygur, Second Army Commander Gen. Fevzi Turkeri, Aegean Army Commander Gen. Hursit Tolon will continue their assignments.
Deputy General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit was appointed as First Army Commander.
First Army Commander Gen. Cetin Dogan, Third Army Commander Gen. Tamer Akbas and National Security Council Secretary Gen. Tuncer Kilinc retired as of August 30, 2003.
In Turkish Armed Forces a total of 32 generals and admirals were upgraded to senior posts, while 46 colonels were upgraded to generals and admirals.
The office terms of 44 generals and admirals were extended for one year, while 54 admirals and generals retired.
