ANKARA/WASHINGTON - International Monetary Fund (IMF) European One Department Director Michael Deppler said on Saturday that they transferred the debts which Turkey would pay back in 2004 and 2005 to 2006.
Holding a teleconference after IMF Executive Board meeting, Deppler said that they decreased Turkey's debt, which was 9.7 billion U.S. dollars for 2004, to 5.2 billion dollars and the debt, which was 10.1 billion dollars for 2005, to 7.8 billion dollars.
Deppler added that Turkey would pay back the remaining 6.8 billion dollars in 2006.
Recalling that Turkey paid back his debt to IMF on time and sometimes earlier than its time, Deppler said that one year of additional time should not be considered as a problem.
Deppler said that this additional time would comfort Turkey and markets would be affected positively.
