ANKARA - President Ahmet Necdet Sezer approved on Friday the law amending, annulling and including certain provisions of the law on Social Security Agency for Artisans and Self-Employed (Bag-Kur).
The law basically reconstructs the Self-Employed Pension Fund.
According to the law, the fund would no longer be connected to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, but it will be a related institution of the Social Security Agency. The fund will be autonomous in respect of administration and finance.
The law ensures that one member from employees of the fund and those who are self-employed in agriculture sector and who get insurance from the fund, will be represented in the General Council of the Self Employed Pension Fund.
Self-employed persons have to at least work for five years to get death benefit.
Housewives and foreigners who reside in Turkey can also be insured by the fund upon they wish.
