ANKARA - Supreme Military Council (YAS) convened on Friday under chairmanship of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The regular August meeting of the Supreme Military Council started at 9.50 a.m. in the General Staff Headquarters.
Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok, National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul, Land Forces Commander Aytac Yalman, Naval Forces Commander Bulent Alpkaya, Air Forces Commander Cumhur Asparuk, Gendarme General Command Sener Eruygur, First Army Commander Cetin Dogan, Second Army Commander Fevzi Turkeri, Third Army Commander Tamer Akbas, Aegean Army Commander Hursit Tolon, Land Forces Command Chief of Staff Ilker Basbug, War Academies Commander Ibrahim Firtina, Deputy Chief of General Staff Yasar Buyukanit, NATO Joint Forces Southeast Europe Commander Oktar Ataman, Fleet Commander Ozden Ornek and National Security Council (NBC) Secretary General Tuncer Kilinc attended the meeting.
Promotion of generals, admirals and colonels will be debated in the meeting.
Issues concerning the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) will be taken up in the meeting. In this context, situation of personnel whose relationship with TSK will be cut is expected to be discussed in the meeting.
The meeting will end on Monday.
Members of the Council will visit Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Ataturk, the Founder of Turkish Republic, today.
