ANKARA - The 22nd Term First Legislative Year ended and the parliament recess started on Friday.
The parliament will not convene till October 1, 2003 unless it is called for an extraordinary session.
Under the Constitution, the parliament can recess for three months the maximum. The parliament can be called for an extraordinary meeting by the president directly or upon the demand of the Council of Ministers. Parliament Speaker can call the parliament to hold an extraordinary session directly or upon the written request of one-fifth of total number of deputies which is equal to 110 parliamentarians.
The parliament which convenes for an extraordinary session during the recess cannot continue its recess without discussing the issue which requires the prior meeting.
