ANKARA - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday regarding the adoption of the seventh adjustment package that ''we did what we should have done by adopting the package, now it is time to implement them.''
''They will be implemented, because Turkey is very resolved and it will not miss the opportunity in the year 2004,'' said Gul responding to questions of journalists in the reception held by Parliament Speaker Bulent Arýnc upon the closure of the legislative year.
Noting that the year 2003 was completed in respect of laws, Gul stated that Accession Partnership Document, National Programme and Progress Report were taken into consideration while preparing the EU adjustment packages.
Gul stated that ''all of these studies were carried out in cooperation with the EU. Turkey recorded an important progress.''
Gum stated that EU had also mission in that regard, adding ''after we did what we had to do, EU will do the same. Another important step has been taken to start the negotiations. Certainly these amendments will be stressed in progress reports and its implementation will take place in 2004. Adoption of these laws by the parliament, by government-coalition parties together has a special meaning.''
Upon a question about the amendment made in the structure of the National Security Council (NSC), Gul said that ''the existing structure has been adjusted to the Constitution. The needs and realities of Turkey and EU criteria have been harmonized. An important step has been taken. From now on the implementation of the packages and laws is important...The cabinet is very resolved in implementing the laws.''
