Qatar's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Sultan Hasan al-Dhabit al-Dusari, announced Tuesday that Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani had personally directed that Turkish firms be included in upcoming Qatari infrastructure development.
Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen, speaking after talks with al-Dusari in Doha, said Turkish contractors already hold roughly 1.2 billion USD in Qatari investments and that Türkiye is eager to compete for a portion of Qatar's estimated 100 billion USD in planned construction and infrastructure work over the next five years.
Discussions covered infrastructure, superstructure, irrigation, and sewerage projects. Tuzmen also highlighted Türkiye's shipbuilding expertise and proposed that agricultural goods, including fresh produce, be grown in Türkiye and exported to Qatar. He further invited Qatari participation in Türkiye's southeastern GAP development project.
Bilateral trade has tripled over the past two years, Tuzmen noted, adding that annual volume could realistically reach 1 billion USD.
Tuzmen later addressed a Türkiye-Qatar Trade and Economic Cooperation seminar, outlining the Turkish economy and describing current conditions as favorable for Gulf capital investment in Türkiye.
