Finance Minister Unakitan: State Minister Babacan Told Me Imf Executive Directors Board May Convene This Week

ANKARA - Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said on Wednesday that State Minister Ali Babacan told him that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Directors Board might convene this week.
When leaving a meeting at Health Ministry, Unakitan replied to questions of reporters.
When a reporter said, ''International rating organization Standard and Poor's (S&P) said in a statement that the government will not be able to reach target of non-interest surplus in 2003-2004,'' and asked how he assessed this statement, Unakitan said, ''we said that we will reach this target.''
Asked whether or not he would take into consideration of S&P's reasons, he said, ''I have not seen its reasons yet. But we are exerting every kind of efforts to reach this target and we are taking all measures.''
When a reporter said, ''IMF Executive Directors Board is expected to convene either on August 4 or after August 14. Is it possible for IMF to convene before August 14?'' Unakitan said, ''I think that it will convene before that time. Babacan told me that the meeting will probably be held this week.''
