ELAZIG/IZMIR - 51 people were detained after a brawl occurred between police and protestors during a May Workers' Day demonstration in eastern city of Elazig, sources said on Monday.
Sources stated that a brawl took place between police and demonstrators as they --members of illegal DHKP/C organization-- wanted to stage sit-in protest in front of a high school. A total of 51 people were detained.
On the other hand, some of protestors and police officers were injured slightly during demonstrations in western city of Izmir.
Some demonstrators threw stones at police and set off a clash in which several people were injured. Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowd. Police tightened security measures in the city.
