ANKARA - Turkish Ministry of Finance experts --based on 2005 inspections-- have announced today that, for every 100 YTL of tax paid to the government 119 YTL is being defrauded.
According to information received by the AA correspondent, income tax evasion is on the rise in Turkey.
Those tax payers inspected in 2005 reported a total income of 32.5 billion YTL (one dollar equals 1.32 YTL). Despite such a report, Finance Ministry inspectors detected a tax evasion of 38.7 billion YTL in 2005.
The greatest tax evasion is in the finance sector. Inspecting 2,487 taxpayers, experts found out 8.5 billion YTL of interest from bank accounts declared as against 26.3 billion YTL of undeclared income.
