HURRIYET (LIBERAL)

1 YTL ARGUMENT OF THE TWO MINISTERS
The amendment planned to be made on the Environment Law, and 1 YTL environment tax, which is planned to be included in the invoice of mobile phones, and which will bring an additional 564 YTL additional burden on GSM operators, caused an argument between the two ministers of the cabinet.
Turkish Environment Minister Osman Pepe said 1 YTL would be collected from the GSM operators, meanwhile Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim, who is on a visit abroad, sent a message through his bureaucrats and said the article pertaining to the tax was totally removed, and that the tax could not be taken from the GSM operators.
Upon this message, Pepe said, ''wait and see''.
PKK HUNTING IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
With a decision made in the National Security Council (MGK), a system will be established which will monitor the movements of all the ships in the Mediterranean in 80 miles area. Thus, a heavy blow will be put on drug trafficking and fuel oil smuggling of the terrorist PKK organization.
General Staff, which carries out a wide-scale land operation against PKK in the Southeast, this time goes toward the sea. General Staff launches an operation also in the sea to put a blow on the drug trafficking of the organization with the ships over the Mediterranean.

NATIONAL VIEW DOES NOT ACCEPT CONSTITUTION
The present head of the German Federal Service for Protection of the Constitution Heinz Fromm said, ''99 percent of the Muslims respect the laws. There are radicals like national view organization. We monitor them.''
Replying to the questions of Daily Milliyet on Islam religion and extreme Islamist organizations in Berlin, Fromm said 99 percent of the Muslims respected laws and did not create danger, and noted that, ''majority of the Muslims perform their religions peacefully.''
View of Fromm toward the National View is different. He said, ''we think the National View wants to act according to the religious rules and does not accept that there is a constitution here. It does not accept that power of the state is based on the sovereignty of people and political election.''
Fromm also said they would continue to monitor Islam Community National View.

LARAPORT FOR 3 YTL PER SQUARE METERS
Polemical Laraport tender has come into a resolution. The Ministry of Tourism assigned the land in Lara Beach for 10 million 550 thousand YTL in the auction. Limak Group became the new owner by offering a higher price than IC Antbel.
14 thousand acres of land that is rated by the real-estate agencies as 35-40 million YTL, goes to Limak for 10.5 million YTL
For the allocated 14 thousand acres of land, Limak Vice President Sezai Bacaksiz said "There is no need to worry. We will not turn Antalya into a concrete mass. We may build a theme park such as Disneyland". According to the specifications, Limak has to invest 300 million dollars to the land.

AMNESTY QUARREL FOR APO
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''this is a carelessness which puts us into a position of being a traitor. Baykal is in no quality to understand our sensitivity on this subject. I am very offended by his comments.''
Deniz Baykal, leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP), said: ''I hope the Prime Minister lets go off the polemics and insults he is making.'' Who put that article on the law and what was his intention? He must first give account on this. If he wants to keep the polemic, we know how to show him his place.''

HARSH RESPONSE TO BY-PASS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer vetoed some articles of the law uniting social security institutions under one roof. The articles were excluding Cankaya in some appointments. The reason of the veto said, ''the president controls the ruling power through this way. This control is particularly very necessary in single-party rulings. Signature of the president prevents some unjust procedures and some high ranking appointments having political quality.''

SEARCHES ARE UNDERWAY FOR THE SECRET HAND
Following the statements of representative of the National Defense Ministry, Ismail Caliskan, Spokesman of the Turkish Police Department, said it would be out of question for them to want the article of the draft Anti-Terrorism law which is claimed to bring amnesty to Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the terrorist organization. It was reported that the draft, which the government has sent to the related institutions and organizations, was later changed in Council of Ministers.
LARGEST FLAG RECORD REGISTERED
The largest flag unfurled in midair has been registered with the Guinness Book of Records when Lieutenant Gazali Peltek from the 1st Commando Brigade of Turkish Army in central city of Kayseri unveiled it.
Lieutenant Peltek received a certificate from Prof. Dr. Orhan Kural, Turkey Representative of the Guinness Book of Records.
The flag measures 18.6 meters by 28.56 meters and weighs 25 kilograms. This flag record is Turkey's 21st record in the Guinness Book of Records. Lieutenant Peltek said that the flag record is for all Turkish martyrs.

Former Ambassador of the United States in Ankara Mark Parris, speaking about the visit of Rice, said, ''the message is the visit itself. It was reported that U.S. Secretary of State would not visit Turkey for a long time after Hamas leader's visit. People should understand the importance of the visit at this point.''

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ''health services have reached to contemporary standards in Turkey with the steps taken in the recent years.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a medical center, Erdogan said, ''the most critical problem today is the state's taking all its citizens under social security umbrella. We have taken important steps for this.''
GUZEL OF TURKEY BECOMES EUROPEAN CHAMPION
Ismail Guzel of Turkey competing in men's 120 kg category became European champion in the 53rd European Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Russian capital of Moscow.
Guzel beat his Finnish opponent Juha Ahokas in the final.

Economy circles gave full grade to Turkish Central Bank Governor Durmus Yilmaz in his first presentation in front of public.

TOXIC WASTE IN BARRELS IS CARCINOGENIC
TUBITAK (Science & Technological Research Council of Turkey) has made public that 80 percent of the toxic waste in the barrels found in Tuzla town of Istanbul included carcinogenic substances which are hazardous to human health.
