ANKARA - President Vaclav Klaus of Czech Republic said that EU membership is not related with issues like religion, culture or national income per capita, noting that he supports Turkey's EU membership.
Speaking in a conference on ''Enlargement of EU and Turkey'' at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Klaus stressed the importance of economic integrity, and said that political integrity is unnecessary and it is a project which will bring harm.
Noting that each country which wants to join EU should be given a chance on the conditions to meet political, economic and social criteria, Klaus said that EU membership is not and should not be related with issues like religion, culture or national income per capita.
Klaus said that EU's real problem is economic, political and social criteria, adding that he supports Turkey's membership, and in fact he supports every country's membership which wants to join the Union.
