ANKARA - Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said that Turkey needed legal changes named as ''European Union (EU) adjustment package.''
Giving information to Parliamentary Justice Commission which is discussing the seventh EU adjustment package, Cicek said that Turkey needed those changes whether EU wanted them or not.
Cicek noted that those arrangements were necessary for Turkey's modernization and democratization.
The changes concerned all state institutions, Cicek said.
Cicek pointed out that it was not right to show as if ''there was a conflict among institutions.''
Such comments stemmed from either prejudice or lack of information about the Constitution, Cicek stated.
Cicek said that Turkish Armed Forces had undertaken an important role in westernization effort of Turkey since the declaration of the Tanzimat (Reorganization) Movement in 1839.
Noting that changes had not been over yet, Cicek said that amendment to regulations comprised of 80 thousand pages was in question.
The amendments would be put into practice with support of the Republican People's Party (CHP), Cicek added.
