FETHIYE - Fethiye head official Cengizhan Aksoy said on Saturday that nearly 200 Turkish people who attempted to pass to Italy illegally were captured aboard a boat off Oludeniz in Fethiye township of southwestern province of Mugla.
Aksoy told the A.A correspondent that coast guard boat came across a boat off Oludeniz during its routine tour and stated that nearly 200 Turkish people were caught aboard the boat.
''We think that those people boarded the boat from forested area of Fethiye. Most of people are from southeastern region. There are also children and women in the group. Those people told us that they attempted to go to Italy to find job,'' he stated.
Aksoy said that those people paid 2,500 euros per capita to board the boat and stated that captain and crew of the boat were missing.
Investigation is under way.
