NO CASUALTIES, BUT SOME CRACKS ON WALLS OF BUILDINGS
DENIZLI - An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale took place at 11.36 a.m. in Buldan town of western Denizli province on Saturday. No casualties were reported.
Earlier two tremors measuring 5.0 and 4.1 on the Richter scale took place in the same town and aftershocks also followed.
Denizli Governor Recep Yazýcýoglu said that he had access to Buldan after the quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale, adding ''there are cracks on the walls, but there is no information saying that any building collapsed. But the people are in panic naturally.''
Buldan head official Bilal Celik said in his part that studies continued to find out if there is any casualty, adding that some buildings were damaged in Buldan.
YAZICIOGLU:''48 HOUSES WERE DAMAGED''
Denizli Governor Recep Yazicioglu said on Saturday that 48 houses were damaged in the earthquake that happened in Buldan town the same morning.
Governor Yazicioglu visited Buldan and talked to citizens. Noting that wooden houses were particularly damaged in the quake, Yazicioglu stated that some of the 150 historical houses in Buldan city-centre were damaged. ''We will get in contact with the Old Houses Protection Board in Izmir and take measures regarding the old houses,'' he said.
Yazicioglu stated that persons who were living in old buildings were afraid of entering into their houses, and they asked for tents.
Governor Yazicioglu returned to Denizli after his contacts in Buldan.
