ISTANBUL - Turkish National Olympics Committee (TMOK) Chairman Sinan Erdem (76) died in Paris on Thursday.
Erdem, who had an operation a while ago, died in Paris early on Thursday. Erdem had a second operation in France due to a tumor in his liver, however he died in intensive care unit.
Erdem, who had been the chairman of TMOK since 1989, was decorated with a medal in the name of Japanese Emperor Akihito due to the development of Japanese-Turkish relations on November 3, 1992. Erdem was also the member of coordination committee which was formed for the Olympics to be held in Athens in 2004.
