BELGRADE - US television network Fox was the only foreign broadcaster chosen Thursday to operate a national network in Serbia, officials said here.
The Serbian broadcasting council selected Fox, a unit of Rupert Murdoch's global media giant News Corp., along with local bidders TV Avala, B92, Pink and Kosava-Happy TV.
"I was pleased to learn that Fox Television ... was among the successful bidders for broadcast licences in Serbia," said the US ambassador to Serbia, Michael Polt.
"This decision sends an important signal to foreign investors that Serbia is serious about attracting investment and about moving towards a transparent market system," Polt said in a statement.
The German network RTL had earlier been ruled out of the running for one of the licences due to a financial technicality.
