ISTANBUL - Works were concluded to unearth the toxic waste barrels discovered in Tuzla town of Istanbul, sources said on Sunday.
Teams of Istanbul City Directorate of Environment and Forestry and Izmit Waste Refinement Cremation and Evaluation Inc. Co. (IZAYDAS) started works early on Sunday to dig the ground and unearth the toxic waste barrels.
Managing Director of IZAYDAS, Recep Bilal Sengun told journalists that all necessary equipment and staff were ready and noted that the waste would be stored temporarily and taken to the IZAYDAS facilities.
''At the time being, we have not determined a method to destroy the waste as we don't certainly know what they are. Necessary information will be given later. The works may last a week,'' he added.
