IZMIR - ''There are several toxic waste burial grounds not only in Tuzla (a town of Istanbul) but also in other places in the country,'' stated Banu Dokmecibasi, Anti-Toxics Campaigner of Greenpeace Mediterranean in Turkey.
Dokmecibasi told the A.A correspondent on Saturday that Turkey needs a strategy which would minimize waste material and recycle the toxic waste rather than waste disposal facilities.
Stating that there wasn't any control mechanism regarding disposal of chemical waste in the country, Dokmecibasi said, ''there is no inventory study regarding hazardous waste in Turkey.''
''Authorities should encourage industrial organizations to adopt clean and safe production methods,'' she added.
